Town Creek Volunteers in Patrol (VIP)

Help Keep Town Creek a Safe and Welcoming Neighborhood
Did you know that Town Creek residents can play an active role in helping keep our neighborhood safe?
Through the Dallas Police Department's Volunteers in Patrol (VIP) program, trained neighborhood volunteers serve as extra eyes and ears for the police, helping identify and report suspicious activity while providing a visible presence throughout Town Creek.
It's a simple way to make a meaningful contribution to the neighborhood we call home.
What Do VIP Volunteers Do?
VIP volunteers patrol Town Creek in pairs, using their own vehicles to drive through neighborhood streets and keep an eye out for anything unusual.
Volunteers are trained to observe and report — never confront, intervene, or pursue anyone. The goal is to provide an additional layer of neighborhood awareness while supporting the Dallas Police Department.
Patrols generally last about an hour, and volunteers can choose when they want to participate.
Volunteering Is Easy and Flexible
One of the best things about the VIP program is its flexibility.
- Patrol when it's convenient for you. Morning, afternoon, or evening — whatever works with your schedule.
- Patrol with a partner. VIPs always patrol in pairs with another trained volunteer.
- No weekly commitment. Participate as often as your schedule allows.
- Just an hour makes a difference. Even an occasional patrol contributes to neighborhood visibility.
Whether you're retired, working full-time, or simply looking for a way to become more involved in Town Creek, the VIP program offers an opportunity to help.
How Do I Become a VIP?
Getting started is straightforward.
1. Complete the VIP Application and Waiver
The Dallas Police Department requires new volunteers to complete an application and waiver form.

2. Attend Dallas Police Department VIP Training
New volunteers attend a free, four-hour training session conducted by the Dallas Police Department. The training covers patrol procedures, safety guidelines, and how to recognize and report suspicious activity.
3. Get Acquainted with Town Creek Patrols
After completing the required paperwork and training and receiving authorization to participate, you'll receive information about our neighborhood patrol procedures and how to coordinate with other volunteers.
